Castle Mountain Lodge is on the border of Rocky Mountain National Park. From your door at the lodge you can access the entire Park trail system.
From your door, follow one of the game trails up the hillside to the meadow area. On the southern edge of the meadow is the Park's Deer Ridge Trail.
Follow this trail to the west and you'll head up Deer Mountain for spectacular views of the Estes valley, Longs Peak and the Front Range. Farther west, the Deer Mountain trail connects with Park trails that cover Horseshoe Park and the Mummy Range, or Beaver Meadows and the Front Range.
Follow this trail to the east and you'll end up in the town of Estes Park.
You can hike from your door over the Continental Divide to Grand Lake - a trip that "old-timers" made completely on foot or horseback. Nowdays, people tend to drive to trailheads and take shorter hikes.
